How filing works

Filing a divorce in this county, in general terms

  1. Choose the county. You can file in Boulder County if you or your spouse lives there. Longmont addresses can be in Boulder County or Weld County, so check your street address first.
  2. File the papers. The court lists three ways to file: by mail to Clerk of Court, P.O. Box 4249, Boulder, CO 80306; in person at the Clerk's Office at 1777 6th Street, Boulder; or online. The court notes that people without a lawyer can e-file in domestic relations cases through Colorado Courts E-Filing.
  3. Pay the fee or ask for a waiver. The court says to include any filing fee, or the filing may be rejected. If you cannot afford it, the Judicial Branch explains fee waivers.
  4. Serve your spouse, unless you filed together. Then the case follows the court's Case Management Order and the Initial Status Conference. The step-by-step guide walks through each stage and form.

Court hours and procedures change. Confirm them on the court's official page before you go. This is general information, not advice for your case.
